Our fall season is in full swing, with great news to report about the first event of the 2014-2015 year, the Blanket Party, a fundraiser for our scholarship fund. Treasurer Kevin Conway reports that we raised over $1,500 at the party, which will directly benefit college forestry students from local high schools.
That momentum will propel us forward to the September meeting. On Wednesday, September 17, renowned author George Gruell will discuss the conception of and lasting relevance of his book, “Fire in Sierra Nevada Forests: A Photographic Interpretation of Ecological Change Since 1849”, published in 2001. With a degree in Wildlife Management, his career focus has been habitat management, vegetative succession, fire ecology, and fire history. For details, go to the "Forest Forum Meetings" page of this website.
Bob and Kevin Broderick, Bob Graton, and I will take the Forest Forum on the road to Tahoe, at Tahoe Farm Day this Tuesday. We will also make our debut at Amador County Farm day later in the month.
The fall lineup is going to be informative and impressive, and a few raffle prizes were saved for the Holiday Party in December, namely, the overnight stay package in Tahoe and one-half cord of firewood from Taeger's Firewood in El Dorado. You won't want to miss a single meeting!
The Amador-El Dorado Forest Forum is a group of forestry professionals, forestry educators, and others interested in forestry practices and issues. The Forum meets once a month at various locations in the two-county area. The Forum awards scholarships to local college students majoring in Forestry and sponsors the California Forestry Challenge. Everyone is welcome to join our group. We have great dinner meetings, an annual Blanket Party, and participate in El Dorado County Farm Day. For complete details on upcoming Forest Forum meetings, go to the "Forest Forum Mtgs." page.
