It was a packed house at the March Forest Forum meeting. The Institute of Forest Genetics' conference room nearly burst at the seams with forest forum members, there for a presentation from Jim Kral, Manager of Mountain Home Demonstration State Forest. Jim made a case for the active management of the 4,800 + acre forest, illustrated by lots of pictures of the Giant Sequoias that thrive there. Notable guests included students from Ponderosa High School, both from the AP Environmental Science class, as well as the school's FFA chapter. We hope to keep these students actively engaged in Forest Forum meetings and field trips. Additionally, we look forward to having student and teacher volunteers at El Dorado County Farm Day, coming up on Tuesday, May 13.

In other news, you could say the "cat is out of the bag". At our February meeting, Forest Forum members selected Bob Smart to be honored at the Spring Honors Dinner on April 23. The meeting has been moved back one week because of spring break, and will be at Colina de Oro in Diamond Springs.  Bob has been a member of the Forest Forum for many years, and served as its president.

Wrapping up the spring season will be our Annual Field Tour and BBQ on Saturday, May  17th.  The tour will focus on Blodgett Forest near Georgetown, but may include other sites nearby. Details on the focus of the field trip and a potluck dinner will be forthcoming.
The Amador-El Dorado Forest Forum is a group of forestry professionals, forestry educators, and others interested in forestry practices and issues.  The Forum meets once a month at various locations in the two-county area.  The Forum awards scholarships to local college students majoring in Forestry and sponsors the California Forestry Challenge.  Everyone is welcome to join our group. We have great dinner meetings, an annual Blanket Party, and participate in El Dorado County Farm Day.  For complete details on upcoming Forest Forum meetings, go to the "Forest Forum Mtgs." page.
