The fall meeting season is back in full swing.  To start the season, on August 29th the Forum held its annual Blanket Party to benefit the Edwin F., Lila, and Lyle Smith Scholarship fund.  It was a lovely evening in Pollock Pines, dining out under the warm sky at the Gold Ridge Community Clubhouse.  Participants were very generous, and over $1,500 was raised for the scholarship fund.

During the evening , we remembered Ron Cunnington, who passed away recently.  Ron devoted himself to the Forest Forum, serving on the Scholarship Committee for many years.  He was the de-facto secretary long before I took the position.  And, Ron was honored in 2012 at the Spring Honors Dinner, when his whole family came out to support him.

We also heard news that the official philosopher of the Forest Forum, David Long, was in the hospital recovering from an uncertain illness.  I am pleased to report that David is home resting, and emailed me recently with this message:  "I want to thank all of the Forum members who signed that beautiful card. I'm home recovering. Pretty good shape, given what I went through. Creating red blood cells at a rate of two million/second."

In other news, after nearly a year of planning and public involvement, Laurence Crabtree, Forest Supervisor for the Eldorado National Forest, has signed a Record of Decision for the King Fire Restoration Project which selects a modified version of the original proposed action. The Record of Decision (ROD) describes in detail the rationale for this decision which considers many interrelated management concerns associated with the aftermath of the King Fire. A link to the ROD can be found on this website's "Workshops/Articles" page.

The Amador-El Dorado Forest Forum is a group of forestry professionals, forestry educators, and others interested in forestry practices and issues.  The Forum meets once a month at various locations in the two-county area.  The Forum awards scholarships to local college students majoring in Forestry and sponsors the California Forestry Challenge.  Everyone is welcome to join our group. We have great dinner meetings, an annual Blanket Party, and participate in El Dorado County Farm Day.  For complete details on upcoming Forest Forum meetings, go to the "Forest Forum Mtgs." page.
